BANK TRAVEL BUZZ THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST: HUNTSVILLE IS A SMART HOST FOR BANKTRAVEL 2014 BY MAC LACY "OUR ANTEBELLUM HISTORY, OUR THRIVING RESTAURANT SCENE, OUR EVENTS — ALL ARE PART OF THE STORY HERE." 14 BANK TRAVEL M A N A G E M E N T W hat kind of city do you get when more than 130 military generals return there to enjoy retirement, hundreds of active aerospace engineers and research executives bring families there to live, and antebellum homes and structures built there are preserved as private residences and offices? The answer is a city like Huntsville, Alabama. When delegates to BankTravel 2014 gather there next March 30 to April 1, they will be greeted by one of the South's most livable places, a progressive city with superb schools, a thriving arts community, a penchant for historic preservation and a local dining scene many larger cities would envy. I traveled to Huntsville in July to get a feel for its allure as our next BankTravel Conference destination. The U.S. Space and Rocket Center has long been its signature attraction, but this city's aerospace heritage is just the beginning of its appeal; I spent a full day touring Huntsville before we even got to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.
